19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

The win also means he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent saved 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
